What does Corporate Parenting mean?

The law says that every child and young person looked after by Lambeth Council must be given the same opportunities as all young people so that they stay happy, healthy and safe. Every person working for Lambeth Council is responsible as a corporate parent to make sure this happens.

When we talk about opportunities, we mean that children in care should be able to have a good education, health, housing and leisure. This is so that children who have been in care are set up to have a good future and able to enjoy their life.

What does the Corporate Parenting Board do?

The Corporate Parenting Board (CPB) is Lambeth Council’s way of making sure that children and young people looked after by Lambeth stay healthy, safe and enjoy their lives.

The Chair (person who runs the meeting) is the Lead Cabinet Member for children and young people. It is their job to make sure that all people working in Lambeth Council are doing the best that they can for all children and young people looked after by Lambeth.

The board holds meetings five times a year and other people who attend are senior managers from Social Care, Health, Education, Connexions; foster carers; and young people who are looked after by Lambeth Council. If you are interested in coming to a CPB meeting, then get in contact with us!
