What’s happening?
Visions of Success (VOS) And Peer Care consultants (PCC) unite!
The Corporate Parenting Team runs lots of training workshops for you to take part in. After completing any of these workshops you would be become ‘Peer Care Consultants.’ This means you can receive accredited training in an area that interests you including ‘recruitment panels’, ‘interviewing young people’ and ‘training for trainers’. Some of this work has already been started by some of the young people we work with but we are interested in getting to know more of you so give us a call! For more information see below for a brief description of what the workshops are about! Please contact the Corporate Parenting Team on Tel: 0207 926 8564 or email us at info@g2k.or.uk if you want more info or are interested in taking part!
‘Peer Care Trainers’ - young people as trainers
Maybe you are interested in training social workers, foster carers and health professionals around ‘effective communication’ with young people? Well then this is the right thing for you! We will provide you with the knowledge around how to train these professionals and we will even support you on the day. We have had feedback from some of the professionals who have received this training from some of the young people that are already involved and they say that hearing the training from young people is so much more helpful! We will also support you around presenting at conferences including ‘Community Care Live’ and the Social Care Conferences.
‘Peer Care Recruiters’ - Young people on recruitment panels
A group of young people looked after, just like you, have been trained to take part in recruitment panels for permanent social work and management staff in children’s Social Care. They have helped to hire a number of deputy managers within the council.
The second part of this project, ‘Peer Care Recruiters’, has now begun. And this is where we need you!!! This part will focus on the training a new group of young people! If you are aged 13-24 years and would be interested in helping run interviews for new social care staff throughout the year contact Gerry Dermody on 020 7926 8564.
‘Peer Care Interviewers’ – Young people assessing care standards
During summer 2008, the Peer Care Consultants will be interviewing between 20 to 40 looked after young people who are currently residing in properties provided by Lambeth Council to review the quality of care they are getting. Young people will meet with senior officers and present their findings. This is a project being run by young people, for young people and is a commitment to both evaluation and improving the standards of care they are receiving. We are looking at tailoring this project so that standards of all types of service can be assessed i.e. foster care, residential care as well as placements with relatives.
